Christopher Scanlon is a New York-based baritenor & contemporary countertenor, vocalist, performer, and voice & piano educator.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy. With a professional concentration on sustainable vocal technique, stylistic versatility, and evidence-based voice instruction, Christopher’s work strives to connect performance and pedagogy, emphasizing sustainable, efficient vocal production across a broad variety of genres. Scanlon has been involved in professional musical theatre and collegiate-level choral performance from an early age. At eleven years old, he performed with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and the Vassar College Collegiate Choir, appearing in major works such as Leonard Bernstein’s Kaddish and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, including “O Fortuna,” at Ivy League institution Vassar College at notable venues such as The Bardavon Opera House.

He began his musical theatre career at age thirteen and has since portrayed a wide range of leading roles, including Jesus Christ (Jesus Christ Superstar), Jean Valjean (Les Misérables) Sam Carmichael (Mamma Mia!), Bobby Strong (Urinetown), Pugsley Addams (The Addams Family), Harry Easter (Street Scene), Prince Barigoule (Cendrillon), and Ricky Potts (Ride the Cyclone). Additional performance credits include appearances as Candide (Candide), Riff (West Side Story), and Ozzie (On The Town).

With over a decade of professional vocal training, Christopher is recognized for his vocal flexibility and range, performing across both traditionally male and female registers. His repertoire spans classical, opera, musical theatre, contemporary commercial music, pop, rock n roll, jazz, and gospel, utilizing advanced contemporary belt and mix techniques. This stylistic breadth informs his pedagogical work, allowing him to guide singers through a wide spectrum of technical and artistic demands. Scanlon has studied under Broadway icon Craig Schulman, renowned for his performances as The Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera), Jean Valjean (Les Misérables), and Tevye (Fiddler on the Roof), as well as his work with the Metropolitan Opera.

Christopher’s additional orchestra and ensemble credits include performances at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic in 2022 and with the New Jersey Wind Symphony in 2023. His performance awards include first- and second-place honors at the state, regional, and national levels of the National Association of Singers competition in 2021, across both musical theatre and classical categories.

Based in New York, Scanlon performs regularly at leading Broadway venues such as 54 Below, The Green Room 42, and Don’t Tell Mama.

He has been featured as a rising star in Scott Siegel’s Broadway:

In addition to his performance career, Scanlon is a dedicated voice and piano coach and educator, working with toddlers, children, teens, and adults. He provides private instruction in voice and piano, designing individualized, goal-oriented lesson plans tailored to each student’s technical level, learning style, and artistic interests. His teaching emphasizes healthy, sustainable technique, functional musicianship, and embodied learning, integrating principles of vocal science, somatic awareness, and motor learning.

As a piano instructor, he supports students in developing foundational keyboard skills, sight-reading, rhythm, theory, and chordal understanding, often using the piano as a tool to reinforce vocal technique, musicianship, and independent practice skills. His pedagogical approach prioritizes inclusivity, adaptability, and artistic confidence, supporting students across genres of their choosing.

He is committed to helping singers and performers build reliable technique, expressive freedom, and long-term vocal and musical health, empowering students to become informed, self-directed, and confident musicians.
